With almost 2.500 exhibiting companies from 57 countries and more than 100,000 visitors, Munich’s Intersolar was nothing less than a success, apart from this:

A poor sight obviously and even if a bin can overflow due to bad organization, how can someone justify the lack of separating bins…In a renewable exhibition? Very disappointing, especially when Germany has a super-efficient framework around waste separation & management.

Flying to Germany and visiting Intersolar is always a great opportunity to see old friends and meet new solar warriors with the similarities and differences between the European solar market and the Australian one, always coming up in discussions.

TOPCON Ntype modules were everywhere. (Same with storage and EV chargers) as more cost-effective and efficient than the “old” PERC offering advantages such as lower electricity production costs.
Researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute outlined cost-effective strategies to accelerate the industrial production of TOPCon solar products by involving relatively straightforward adaptations of existing manufacturing processes used for PERC cells, requiring the addition of two process steps: creating an oxide layer and applying inherent/doped polysilicon.
In summary, 2023 marks a (another) pivotal year for the solar module industry, with advancements in n-type technology and TOPCon promising greater efficiency, capacity, and cost-effectiveness, alongside efforts to streamline production processes for an even more widespread adoption.

Once again, I had the pleasure of visiting the remarkable team at Acro’Bat Sol’Air in New Caledonia, who, in my opinion, are undeniably legends in the solar industry. Another powerful quality project with 100KW aleo solar panels in NSW, Australia at Brickfields Bakery that supports the environment and also in what we like to call, the making of “Solar Bread”.

Over the 25years that the aleo panels are factory guaranteed to work, about 2.8GWh of green electricity harvested from the sun will be produced. That’s about 187,000 m2 of natural habitat or roughly the same size as 717 double tennis courts!

Sand and Dust Test. How aleo solar panels perform.

From wildfires to flooding, and from hail to sand storms, these extreme weather events have risen concern amongst experts and scientists around the world. Now regularly included in international solar energy conferences & events around the globe, researchers and engineers are holding discussions on how to include strategies that take weather elements into account, as climate change puts a high cost on solar investments.

Remembering the huge dust storms hitting NSW in January this year, and as we enter another period of potentially threatening extreme weather events, a couple of questions come in mind.

– What does sand and dust do to solar panels, how does it affect the longevity of your solar investment, what happens to performance and reliability due to abrasion?

Aleo solar modules were put to the test with sand being blown at 65km/h for 4 hours, 2 hours on each side, and particles measuring 380 micromilimeters in diameter. And although NASA recorded much bigger particles of 2 millimeters+ during the NSW sand storms on Jan 11th earlier this year, learn why this test is still so important when the durability factor comes into play. The HE-Tec series of the German module manufacturer aleo solar GmbH has won no less than three prizes at the prestigious, internationally renowned “Plus X Award”.

In more detail, the HE-Tec modules have been awarded three seals of approval, namely for “high quality”, “ease of use” and “functionality”.

The fact: Light acts on the materials and affects the yield form the crystalline silicon cells of photovoltaic modules, contributing to two types of degradation, the well-known LID and the mere recently discussed LeTID (Light and Elevated Temperature Induced Degradation).

The LID effect.
​Well-known in the industry for more than 20 years, Light Induced Degradation (LID) is measurable from the first hours of exposure of solar panels to sunlight, due to traces of oxygen included in the molten silicon during the Czochralski process for creating silicon crystals, hence the silicon wafer.
Although the Lid effect is an unavoidable phenomenon, not all solar panels in the market are equally resistant to it. aleo modules have an average LID of only 0.6%, which is very low, and is a guarantee of the quality silicon used.

As a result of high quality, aleo guarantees 98% of the initial power (the one measured at the factory, in the end of production) for the first 2 years of operation of the module.

The LeTID effect.
​Contrary to the Lid effect, which has been studied for over 20 years, the Light and Elevated Temperature Induced Degradation (LeTID) phenomenon has only recently been discovered.
LeTID refers to a degradation effect caused by light and high temperatures that affect the panels’ efficiency after years of operation. It may cause a significant power loss in systems installed in locations with high irradiation and high-temperatures.

aleo solar panels have a high resistance to the LeTID effect, with a maximum power loss of 1,52% vs the 5% maximum allowed standard.
